The African Action Congress says it has inaugurated a presidential campaign council to coordinate nationwide campaigning for Omoyele Sowore and his running mate, Haruna Garba Magashi, ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 election.
The announcement came in a statement dated Friday, 9 October, signed by Samuel Ajeigbe, identified as the party’s acting national chairman, and national secretary Oshiokhue Ikpeminoghena, according to The Guardian. guardian.ng
Usman leads campaign organisation
Abdullahi Usman will serve as director-general, with Juwon Sanyaolu as campaign council secretary.
Deputies will oversee strategy and political affairs, alongside diaspora engagement and resource mobilisation.
The AAC also announced 10 national directorates covering responsibilities including policy, grassroots organising, communications, election operations, finance and legal compliance.
Party plans local campaign networks
The party said its structure would extend across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory through state, local government, ward and polling-unit coordinators.
It intends to combine volunteers and local organisers with its existing SOWORENOW application. The council is meant to expand that digital organising effort rather than replace it.
These are the party’s organisational plans. The announcement does not establish how extensively the proposed local network is already operating. punchng.com
Ticket already appears on published candidate list
Sowore and Magashi appear as the AAC’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates on the INEC final list reproduced by Channels Television on 12 September. The council announcement therefore concerns campaign organisation rather than a new nomination. channelstv.com
INEC’s current election calendar schedules the presidential poll for 16 January 2027. The AAC says the council will now coordinate its effort to reach voters in cities and rural communities. inecnigeria.org
