NPFL Fines Doma United ₦5.25 Million

The Nigeria Premier Football League has fined Doma United ₦5.25 million and ordered the club to play its next three home matches behind closed doors after finding breaches of matchday security requirements during its fixture against Kun Khalifat FC.

The punishment followed a 1–1 draw at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe on Saturday, 17 October. The league announced the sanctions on Monday, 19 October, while PUNCH published a further report on 21 October. The decision should therefore be described as an earlier disciplinary action receiving renewed coverage, not a fresh sanction imposed today.

What Happened During the Match?

The NPFL disciplinary notice cited inadequate security, unauthorised access to restricted areas, and hostile conduct involving supporters and match officials. It also identified misconduct affecting an official of the visiting side after the final whistle.

Premium Times reported that the league linked its decision to events at the Matchday Nine fixture. Sports247’s account also described an incident in which visiting coach Obinna Uzoho was injured.

The findings are those of the competition organiser. They should not be confused with a court ruling or a separate criminal investigation. The reviewed reporting does not establish that any individual has been convicted of an offence arising from the fixture.

How Was the ₦5.25 Million Fine Calculated?

The NPFL imposed multiple penalties rather than one undifferentiated fine. According to PUNCH, ₦3 million related to repeated failures to provide adequate security at home matches, and ₦1 million concerned hostility towards match officials. Other cited breaches account for the remaining amount.

The sanctions also require three home fixtures to be played without spectators. That measure is separate from the financial penalties and is designed to address the safety risks associated with supporters’ access to the venue.

Daily Trust also reported the sanctions, corroborating the overall fine and the three-match spectator restriction. Reports of a fine do not establish whether the club has already paid it.

Why Are Closed-Door Matches Significant?

A home-ground ban affects more than the atmosphere around a match. It removes ordinary matchday attendance and can affect the club’s gate receipts, while the team must compete without its usual support. Those consequences are possible effects of the order, not quantified losses established by the NPFL’s notice.

League authorities must balance competitive fairness with a duty to protect players, coaches, referees, and spectators. Security rules are intended to ensure that visitors and officials can work without intimidation and that unauthorised people cannot reach restricted parts of a stadium.

Trivane previously covered Shooting Stars’ defeat to Kun Khalifat, a separate NPFL fixture involving the visiting club. That report provides league context; it is not evidence of the Doma disciplinary incident.

Has Doma United Responded?

The reviewed sources do not establish a definitive club response or the outcome of any appeal. A disciplinary order may be subject to procedures under league rules, but an appeal must not be assumed to have been filed without confirmation.

What Happens Next?

The immediate questions are whether Doma United accepts or challenges the decision, which fixtures will be played without spectators, and whether the NPFL issues any further security directives. Any appeal outcome or modification of the sanctions should be checked against an official league notice.
