South Korean group Stray Kids have not submitted any music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards; their agency, JYP Entertainment, confirmed on Friday, 2 October.
JYP told Korean entertainment outlet Dispatch that the group had made no submissions for the 69th edition of the awards. The confirmation follows BTS’s announcement in July that it would not enter its music for the same awards.
No entries for consideration
According to Variety, Stray Kids filed no entries before the submission window closed on 21 August. Without a formal submission, their music cannot proceed through the nomination process or compete for an award.
That establishes the group’s position in the competition. It does not establish whether its members will attend the ceremony, perform, or take part in another capacity.
Variety also reported that all eight members received invitations this year to become Recording Academy voting members. Voting membership and submitting an artist’s own work are separate parts of the awards process. (au.variety.com)
Asian pop category will proceed
The Recording Academy announced Best Asian Pop Music Performance on 16 June as one of five new categories for the 2027 awards.
Its official category description covers performances originating from, or widely recognised within, Asian markets, including K-pop, J-pop and C-pop. Eligible performances must make meaningful use of at least one Asian language. (grammy.com)
BTS’s July statement expressed a wish for its music to be appreciated beyond regional or language divisions. The Recording Academy chief executive, Harvey Mason Jr., subsequently said that entering a genre category does not prevent an artist from also competing for general awards such as album, record, or song of the year.
