Netflix has confirmed that The Watcher is in production for a second season, nearly four years after the thriller first appeared on the streaming service.
Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale will return as Nora and Dean Brannock. Margo Martindale will reprise her role as their neighbour Mo, while Isabel Gravitt returns as the Brannocks’ daughter Ellie, according to Netflix’s announcement on 2 October.
What will the new season cover?
Netflix says the story will follow the Brannock family after the first season’s unresolved ending. It has not announced a release date or disclosed further plot details.
The first season followed a family whose move to a New Jersey home was disrupted by threatening letters from an unidentified sender. The drama drew on a real case, although its characters and events were fictionalised.
Netflix renewed the series in November 2022. Its latest announcement gives viewers a firmer update: production is under way and four familiar characters are returning. Netflix says the first season reached its Top 10 list in more than 90 countries.
For viewers in Africa and across the diaspora who watched the original series, the immediate news is the cast reunion. A date for watching the new episodes has yet to be confirmed.
