Nigerian hurdler Tobi Amusan finished second in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at Athlos London, earning $35,000 after narrowly missing the title by one-hundredth of a second.
Amusan completed the race in 12.51 seconds at StoneX Stadium on Friday, 18 September 2026. American Alaysha Johnson won in 12.50 seconds.
Johnson Edges Amusan in Close Finish
The official World Athletics results recorded a legal following wind of 1.2 metres per second for the race.
Bahamian athlete Devynne Charlton finished third in 12.63 seconds, ahead of Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, who was also timed at 12.63 seconds.
Megan Simmonds placed fifth in 12.66 seconds, while Rayniah Jones finished sixth in 12.83 seconds.
The result means Amusan lost the title by the narrowest measurable margin used in track competition, underlining how closely matched she and Johnson were at the finish.
Amusan Receives $35,000
Amusan earned $35,000 under the competition’s official prize structure. Athlos awarded $65,000 to each event winner, $35,000 for second place and $20,000 for third.
The Athlos prize schedule also offered payments down to sixth place, with the London meeting featuring seven women’s events.
Johnson received the $65,000 first-place prize and the Athlos crown after winning the hurdles event.
The London meeting was Athlos’ first competition outside the United States and brought leading female athletes together across the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile, 100m hurdles and long jump.
Trivane View
Amusan did not take the title, but a defeat by only 0.01 seconds confirms that she remains highly competitive among the world’s leading sprint hurdlers.
The result is also another reminder that finishing positions alone do not always tell the full story. In London, the difference between victory and second place was almost imperceptible.
