Nigeria Flag Football League Sets November 1 Kickoff for Nine Teams

Nigeria’s CFFL flag football league is scheduled to begin its fourth season on 1 November with nine teams competing over 11 consecutive Sundays. The Guardian reported that the season, branded CFFL Uprise Season 4, will feature a partnership with The Uprise, a sports representation and talent management agency founded by two-time Super Bowl champion Osi Umenyiora.

What Will Change This Season?

According to The Guardian, organisers plan an upgraded home venue, match highlights, weekly player and team awards, and a dedicated statistics page. Recorded games and short-form content are expected to make the competition easier to follow beyond the venue.

The league’s vice-president for legal and competition readiness, Aseobong Etah, presented the changes as a way to increase engagement. These are announced plans; their effectiveness will only be measurable once the season is underway.

Why Does It Matter for Nigerian Athletes?

The league said its outreach programmes have involved more than 500 young athletes and linked player development to Nigeria’s participation in the 2025 African Flag Football Championship. The organisers also want to create opportunities in coaching, officiating and media production.

Flag football is due to make its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028. That gives the sport added visibility, although a domestic league launch does not by itself guarantee Olympic qualification or professional contracts.

What Happens Next?

The league is expected to publish further details on the participating teams, fixtures, and viewing channels ahead of 1 November. Editors should verify the final team list and venue before publishing practical match information.
